The hard truth about going back ‘home’ after 10 month in Central America

Freya 10. September 2015     Kein Kommentar     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

After a 16 hours flight, everybody is relieved to finally touch ground. Can there be any better option than buying a refreshing drink after the landing? I opted for my favourite drink: a Coke. Maybe not the best idea. I have never tasted something more horrible in my whole life. It is not that I

Living the local life part I

Freya 4. Mai 2015     Kein Kommentar     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

Often you hear, that once you have been to a poorer country, you realise how well-off we are in the first world countries. But if you really immerse yourself into the other culture, the only thing you realise is how much useless things we need in our first world countries in order to survive the

    The weekend trip

Freya 5. April 2015     Kein Kommentar     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

To tie up to my last article: I guess you are not on vacation anymore but are living in one place, when you pack a small bag and leave for a short trip. So, last weekend I packed my bags and left for a short trip to San José in Costa Rica. Why did I

  • The enormously giant, incredible huge picnic

Going on an excursion with Costa Ricans involves a lot of logistical planning. You can’t just leave like that, spontaneously. Preparation already begins days before. It all starts with getting together enough people for the excursion. Every seat in the bus needs to be occupied. Bus? Yes, of course. When going on excursion in Costa

    Rice, Rice Baby

Freya 21. Januar 2015     Kein Kommentar     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

There are a lot of things one can do with rice. One can write a name on it, use it as a filling for cushions, throw it on a wedding or dry things with it, as rice absorbs humidity. But, one can also just eat the rice… For over half of the world’s population, rice

    Nicaraguan Christmas and other stories

Freya 4. Januar 2015     2 Kommentare     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

Traveling by bus in Nicaragua is just crazy. Not because the bus is uncomfortable or something, no. It is because I always have to pay for two. In the beginning I thought that I have to pay for my luggage. However, later I realized that I have to pay for my schizophrenic me, as they

    Coke, Pepsi and Co.

Freya 14. Dezember 2014     Kein Kommentar     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

Coca Cola, Pepsi, Coca Cola, Pepsi… Their logos are just everywhere in Honduras. It seems that every town sign is sponsored by either of them. During the whole journey through Honduras you just drive through Coca Cola towns, cross Pepsi bridges or you just see their logo emerging randomly from a river. And of course,

    Xela – a recall

Freya 3. Dezember 2014     Kein Kommentar     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

Walking through the streets of Xela feels like walking through your hometown. The city where you were born, that you know by heart and that you are never going to leave. Because you love it so much. You hang out around Parque Central, maybe with an ice-cream from Pops – the best ice-cream in the

    "Día de Todos los Santos"

Freya 5. November 2014     Kein Kommentar     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

Being in a religious country means to suddenly find oneself in the midst of holy festivals and Christian celebrations. And Guatemala certainly is among those countries. One example is All Saints‘ Day, celebrated in western Christianity on the 1st of November. In Guatemala it is a tradition to visit the cemetery and to give offerings

Deutschland – wo bin ich denn da gelandet? Supermarkt für Fortgeschrittende

Freya 1. Oktober 2014     Kein Kommentar     Gedanken, Im Notizheft

Und was soll man einkaufen?

Hier findest du all meine Erinnerungen. Schön, dass du vorbei schaust!
