    Nicaraguan Christmas and other stories

Freya 4. Januar 2015     2 Kommentare     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

Traveling by bus in Nicaragua is just crazy. Not because the bus is uncomfortable or something, no. It is because I always have to pay for two. In the beginning I thought that I have to pay for my luggage. However, later I realized that I have to pay for my schizophrenic me, as they

An essay about different types of hostels

Freya 29. Dezember 2014     Kein Kommentar     Auf Reisen, Gedanken, Im Notizheft, Mittelamerika

I realised that there is one thing about El Salvador, that you almost do not find anywhere else. And that are the very good hostels. When I start thinking about it, El Salvador had by far the best hostels here in Central America. Not because they were very clean, new or fancy, no, because they

    Where is the garbage?

Freya 24. Dezember 2014     Kein Kommentar     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

Sometimes it is not that easy to cross a border as it seems. When leaving El Salvador I had to queue up for about 30 minutes. There were a hell lot of people and cars at the border, wanting to leave El Salvador. I am writing „to leave El Salvador“ and not „to enter Honduras“,

    Pupusas, Police and Painted Walls

Freya 19. Dezember 2014     Kein Kommentar     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

Traveling in El Salvador feels a bit like being in a club when the party is almost over. Everybody tries to hit on you. The guys just want to hook up with a girl before the night ends. The problem is, that in El Salvador it goes like that the whole day. They just do

    Coke, Pepsi and Co.

Freya 14. Dezember 2014     Kein Kommentar     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

Coca Cola, Pepsi, Coca Cola, Pepsi… Their logos are just everywhere in Honduras. It seems that every town sign is sponsored by either of them. During the whole journey through Honduras you just drive through Coca Cola towns, cross Pepsi bridges or you just see their logo emerging randomly from a river. And of course,

    The road to paradise

Freya 8. Dezember 2014     Kein Kommentar     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

People always tend to say: „Do not go to Guatemala City, it is dangerous and there is nothing much to do and see.“ Well, I have to deny both statements. Of course there is a lot to do in Guatemala City – it is the capital! I spent three days over there and it did

    Xela – a recall

Freya 3. Dezember 2014     Kein Kommentar     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

Walking through the streets of Xela feels like walking through your hometown. The city where you were born, that you know by heart and that you are never going to leave. Because you love it so much. You hang out around Parque Central, maybe with an ice-cream from Pops – the best ice-cream in the

Tales about crocodiles, volcanoes and cheap alcohol

Freya 21. November 2014     Kein Kommentar     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

There we go. Forget about living on a flat world or a sphere globe. We all live on a huge crocodile swimming in the water. At least that is what the ancient Mayas believed in. But think about it, the idea is not that absurd. I went to Takalik Abaj two weeks ago. It is

    Street views

The safest way to cross the street in Guatemala? Definitely walking next to a car that crosses the intersection in the same direction as you do. Like that you can be certain that all other cars at the crossing will stop for sure. Traffic lights are a rare sight in Guatemala, and if there is

    "Día de Todos los Santos"

Freya 5. November 2014     Kein Kommentar     Auf Reisen, Mittelamerika

Being in a religious country means to suddenly find oneself in the midst of holy festivals and Christian celebrations. And Guatemala certainly is among those countries. One example is All Saints‘ Day, celebrated in western Christianity on the 1st of November. In Guatemala it is a tradition to visit the cemetery and to give offerings

Hier findest du all meine Erinnerungen. Schön, dass du vorbei schaust!
